Woman to receive work accident compensation
A woman, 49 years old, from County Durham, recently received what is reportedly a substantial amount in damages after she suffered an accident lifting heavy boxes.
The woman had been required by her employer to lift boxes packed with heavy technical manuals, as the company was due to move offices. In doing so, however, she suffered injuries which continue to pain her to this day: “The injury has had quite a substantial impact on my life. I can no longer complete everyday tasks such as gardening or ironing because I am in too much pain. My doctor says the only cure is an operation, but I can’t afford the time off work. Three years on, it’s still a real problem.”
The woman’s employer chose to settle the woman’s claim out of court; the amount the woman has received in work accident damages is as of yet undisclosed but it is believed to be a substantial amount.
The woman’s solicitor has spoken about the danger of companies requiring employees to undertake tasks, such as this one, that they may not be prepared for: “Companies should undertake appropriate risk assessments and not place employees in danger by asking them to undertake jobs for which they are not trained. The compensation is a reasonable settlement for the injury and continued symptoms experienced by our client.”
