Drop in Scottish work accidents

According to figures released by the HSE, the number of people killed in a work accident has fallen.

In Scotland, a total of 23 people died from personal injury due to an accident at their place of work – this was 26 less than in 2008-09. In Britain the number killed at work was at a record low of 151.

Those working in services also saw the number drop as only 42 died last year, compared to the average of 72.

Construction workers also noted more safety within their sector as the number of fatal injuries decreased from 52 in 2009 to 41 in 2010.

Accident claims and fatalities however are highest in the Agricultural industry and as a result, the HSE is running a campaign to try to reduce the number of farm deaths.

Between April 2009 and 31 March this year 38 farm workers were killed, which is seven more than the previous 12 months.
