Explosion causes worker to seek for work accident compensation claim

A worker from the firm providing anti-corrosion solutions to industry is now seeking work accident compensation claim, after being severely injured after a road tanker exploded causing him to suffer serious personal injury.

He was performing his role at his workplace near Selby, when he was caught up in an explosion in July 2008.

The victim suffered a fractured skull and severe burns to the legs, arms and face when gas vapours from a(LPG) heater, previously placed in the interior of the road tanker, ignited.

The worker, who does not wish to be identified, has now lost most of his sense of taste and his hearing has also been impaired due to this work accident.

The investigation found that the heater, was found not to be working when the vapours ignited causing the explosion.

Meanwhile, a second worker of the firm escaped with minor injuries.

Commenting on the case, a Health and Safety Executive inspector said: “Even though the gas heater was not running, [company’s] failure to carry out a risk assessment and pre-entry testing for toxic or flammable vapours in the tanker was unacceptable.”
