Farmer crushed to death
It has been revealed that an elderly farmhand has died in a work accident.
The terrible incident occurred when the 70-year-old was crushed between a tractor and a large trailer, in Perthshire.
It is believed that the pensioner sustained crush wounds when a large seed drilling machine, which was being towed by the worker in a tractor, became detached as the tractor was trying to get up a steep hill.
Firefighters were called to the scene and they were able to free the labourer, but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
As a result of the horrific accident, police have launched an investigation into the matter.
The accident comes only a week after the HSE released national figures exposing agriculture to be the highest killer in work forces within the UK.
Between April 2009 and 31st March 2010 – 38 farmers have been killed.
