HSE shows work accident claims risk at firm
Owners of a Worcestershire fuel tank manufacturing firm are facing the prospect of dealing with several work accident claims from its employees.
Professional negligence at the company means workers at the firm are exposed to several risks towards their health and safety.
Besides potential personal injury compensation claims, the firm has already been fined £17,000 plus £9,169 in costs by Stratford-upon Avon Magistrates' Court.
The safety risk to employees, according to HSE (Health and Safety Executive) officers, include exposure to harmful chemicals. HSE officers have also exposed the risks of falls from height and crush injuries.
Further cases will mean the company will face the ignominy of a five year ban from directing any company.
HSE Inspector, Peter Snelgrove, said, "[The defendant] deliberately flouted health and safety laws and paid scant regard to the safety of his employees."
Samples of blood and urine from workers, tested by HSE inspectors, revealed increased levels of lead in comparison to the UK population average.
The company as a whole was also found liable and a fine of £70,000 plus costs of £27,507 were imposed.
If a worker develops a lead-related health complaint, it is highly likely compensation claims will be launched by injury lawyers against the company.
