A mechanical engineer for more than 30 years, he was contracted by his employers to provide resources for a refurbishment of the power station.

The incident happened when he was dismantling and maintaining a turbine, when he tripped over an unguarded sight glass.

This glass, usually used to monitor the oil flow through the station’s generator, was poking six inches out of the ground. He had to undergo two operations to his foot and spent six weeks in his bed .

His foot has now healed but he still walks with a pronounced limp and can no longer take up labour in heavy industry.

The engineer's injury lawyers were successful in settling the claim against the firm.
