Employee injured in slip and trip work accident awarded compensation
An employee of a car manufacturer has been awarded a compensation claim for his slip and trip work accident.
The 35-year-old had to quit his job as a Die Maintenance Technician in Sunderland, after he slipped on black ice and landed on his right hand.
As a result, he suffered a severe fracture in his index finger. The black ice at the exit of the plant was impossible to notice as the area was poorly lit.
Although his finger eventually healed, he was left with loss of strength, no dexterity and his hand was disfigured. This meant that the precision engineering and heavy lifting tasks that he had to carry out were no longer possible to do.
An employee of the firm for 14 years, he instead had to find alternate jobs including admin and a tenancy support worker for Gateshead Council.
After making a slip and trip work accident claim, the company admitted liability for the accident and awarded an undisclosed six-figure sum in compensation.
The claimants personal injury lawyer said: “He could still be working in his specialist trade today had [the firm] taken the care to ensure the exit was well lit and the path was safe. [He's]earning capacity was devastated by this avoidable accident.”
