Miner's widow secures compensation
The wife of a miner, who was killed in a tragic work accident last year, has won an undisclosed compensation settlement from the owners of the mine and the company that she says was responsible for providing faulty equipment.
The Minnesota man was killed in 2008 when the drill he was using fell over and crushed him. The US federal inspectorate issued three citations in the incident including for providing inadequate training to operators.
The injury lawyer, who was representing the man’s widow, said that the settlement was fair and adequate but said that he could not disclose the financial outcome, he also made clear that the compensation settlement would not erase the accident.
“I think (the company) always wanted to reach a settlement with the...family. The company was regretful of the loss and has extended its condolences to the family,” said the lawyer.
