A south-east company has been fined £6,000 after a worker received personal injuries when he fell from height in a work accident.
The employee suffered injuries to his pelvis, vertebrae and lung, in addition to broken ribs and could not work for over one year.
A health and safety Executive inspector, said: “By any standards, this was a very serious incident. The injured worker suffered long- term injuries after falling 5.5 metres and is lucky to be alive.”
As a result, the firm, based in Downtown near Salisbury, was fined £6,000 and ordered to pay costs of £3,625 by Reading Crown Court after admitting a breach of the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
Falling from height is a rising issue; with a Berkshire Company recently being fined after a worker fell 5.5 metres through a cement roof and two other firms were fined a total of £37,000 when a roofer fell more than 7.5 metres resulting in facial injuries and a broken arm.
