HSE issues warning to employers
The HSE has issued a national warning to firms to ensure they take adequate safety precautions at work, it has been revealed.
According to the Health and Safety Executive, (HSE), firms should ensure their staff receive necessary training when it comes to moving heavy machinery.
The warning was issued after an employee suffered from personal injuries when a heavy machine fell on him while a number of other employees had been moving it.
The employee, who had been working for a train maintenance depot firm, had been moving a part of the wheel when the machine toppled on top of him.
He suffered from multiple fractures, back injuries and heavy bruising.
As a result, the employer of the firm was fined £30,000 and was ordered to pay a further £27,500 after it admitted it had failed to carry out health and safety legislations.
In a statement, the HSE urged employers to carry out adequate risk assessments in order to reduce work accidents.
The injured employee is also expected to file a no win no fee compensation claim against the employer for his injuries.
