New campaign launched for farming safety

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has launched a new campaign, which it hopes will help reduce the number of serious
work accidents in the farming sector.
The campaign dubbed, Make The Promise - Come Home Safe, is part of an ongoing HSE initiative to make farmers more aware of the health and safety necessities of their job, but unlike previous campaigns this one will also focus on the families of the workers.
According to government figures there were 42 deaths on British farms in 2007, which means that although accounting for only 1.5% of the workforce, farming accounts for 20% of occupational deaths.
“HSE is mounting this campaign because on average over 45 deaths, year after year, occur on British farms. We would like to highlight that this is a partnership to keep farmers safe, not HSE dictating the terms.” Commented Judith Donovan from the HSE.
