Work accident due to lack of training

In Sheffield a machinist who was injured in a
work accident after she failed to receive proper training has been paid nearly £2,000
compensation in an out of court settlement.
Yvonne Ibbotson had to take two weeks off work after she strained a muscle in her shoulder whilst moving heavy boxes two years ago.
Yvonne stated that she had not been given proper training or equipment to move the boxes. They weighed up to 22kg which exceeded Health and Safety regulations. She still suffers from her injuries, and as a result has urged businesses to do more to protect their employees.
Ibbotson said: “My injuries are still causing me pain and discomfort months after they were originally caused at work. After my experiences I want businesses to do more to protect their employees. My accident was preventable.”
Yvonne’s lawyer Lynne Parker commented: “While we are happy to have recovered damages for Mrs Ibbotson, this situation should never have occurred in the first place. Safety rules are in place for a reason and businesses have a duty to protect their staff.”
Parker continued: “In this case a proper assessment should have been carried out. Manual handling is one of the most common sources of injury at work, but one of the easiest to avoid. These injuries could easily be excluded from the workplace.”
