Work accident charges

A home building company and a contractor have received charges after a
work accident left a father of two paralyzed.
Under the Occupation Health and Safety Act GNH construction and Avalon Master Builder have been charged with failing to ensure health and safety of an employee at work. GNH faces two charges, whilst Avalon faces three.
The charges were made when Kevin Loewen fell six metres through an open stairwell whilst working at an Airdrie construction site. The work injury severed his spinal cord leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.
Lowen said that he hopes the case will improve safety matters in the workplace: “It’s good that everyone’s taking a harder stance on safety now.”
The matter is expected to go ahead in Airdrie provincial court November 27th.
