The number of workplace injuries revealed

The Insurer RSA has conducted research discovering that nearly 12 million Britons have suffered illness or injury at the workplace in the last 12 months.

There are a large number of reasons to why or how people suffer illness or injury at work, a quarter of those taken ill at work suffering from stress or anxiety with another quarter complaining from back problems.

The large number of people suffering from work illness or accidents has had a big effect on employers with 17 percent of people suffering from work place injury taking one month to six months off work.

It is also believed that that in 2006 and 2007 nearly 30 million work days where lost due to work related ill health and a further 6 million to work related injury.

A number of employers are now feeling the cost of the supposed ‘compensation culture’ which is on the increase in the U.K, with over half (54 percent) of people who have suffered work place injury or illness have sued the employers for compensation.Updated on 15/07/2008
