Man 'dazed and bloodied' in car accident

A man was left “dazed and bloodied” after he steered his car into the opposite carriageway and crashed into two vehicles.

His car hit another car travelling in the opposite direction then struck another car, before it mounted a pavement and came to a halt near the front window of an Italian restaurant.

The male driver of the first car suffered leg and whiplash injuries which were not thought to be life-threatening.

A five-year-old child in the vehicle was also injured but their condition was not believed to be serious.

Police are working under the hypothesis that the 66-year-old might have fallen asleep at the wheel before the collision. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire engines to the scene along with a station commander.

Hydraulic cutting equipment was used to free two occupants from one of the vehicles which had overturned on its side.

A woman motorist who drove past just after the car accident said she saw the culprit sitting "dazed" and bloodied in the passenger seat of his car.

It is unknwon if any accident claims will be filed.
