Tune in for the Iie detector results
With whiplash claims soaring during the recession and whiplash injuries being staged in ‘crash for cash’ cons, inventors have finally found a way to separate the liars from the truth-tellers.
A new Whiplash Injury Toolkit is currently being developed by a car security research group and six insurers, that will soon be able to tell if an injury is genuine or not.
According to the AA, whiplash claims currently cost the industry £2billion a year and add £66 to every premium.
The invention uses an info database on every car. Details of the accident are entered such as the claimant’s sex, weight and height, how many passengers were in the car and whether it contained luggage. The system then indicates whether a neck injury is likely due to the input.
A similar product has been used in Germany with proven results, as whiplash claims have decreased by a whopping 30%.
Lesley Upham, from the research group, commented that the kit: “is in the last stages of testing. The programme is accurate and customisable. It’s the first time a bit of science has been used in this area.”
