OAP victim fights suspected crash for cash claim

A man is due to appear in court next month to fight an insurance claim which was made against him after a road smash left him believing he was a victim of a 'crash for cash' scam.

The 71-year-old man from Coventry stated that a vehicle had suddenly swerved in front of him and braked heavily causing the man to crash into the back of it.

He said: "As I was going towards the exit spot this vehicle appeared from the right at quite a high speed. It came straight in front of me, no lights, no indicator and stopped."

After the collision, a second car appeared behind him which he believes was an accomplice to 'act' as a witness.

Although, the accident caused only minimal damages to the other vehicle yet the driver filed a number of substantial claims stating that he received a number of personal injuries such as spinal and whiplash injuries.

He said: "[The driver] claimed for personal injuries, loss of his vehicle, a new vehicle. He said he's got spine injuries, whiplash, a host of things."

In recent months, drivers have been advised to be vigilant of crash for cash fraudsters who deliberately set up accidents in order to claim through the innocent drivers' insurers.
