Whiplash's whopping tab
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) recently commented that their various members have been reporting concerning numbers of
whiplash claims streaming in their direction. With the Christmas season fast upon us the revelry is set to lead to some troubling times ahead. While the hope is that once a person steps up to the plate and slides behind their wheel they are doing so as a responsible adult, not risking the lives of other road users by having ‘just a tipple’ beforehand.
Whiplash claims following road accidents are soaring and the costs related to such injuries are doing exactly the same with compensation claims on the rise to keep up. Some 1,200 claims related to whiplash are logged on a daily basis and these claims are costing upwards of £2 billion a year. These same costs set the NHS back a fair bit too, their tab coming in at a neat but whopping £8 million per year.
