It has been revealed that whiplash claims related to personal injury accidents are costing individual car insurance policy holders £66 each.
A new report compiled by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) displayed that around 1,200 people submit a claim for whiplash injury every day.
The AA contributed to the findings stating that such claims had cost the industry £1.9 billion in compensation over the course of 2007. Therefore, this expense is reflected in car insurance premiums.
Director of AA insurance, Simon Douglas commented that whiplash claims will become an “increasingly important” factor for the cost of policies in the future: “The cost of whiplash claims equates to about £66 for every UK car insurance policy … this is more than twice the cost of claims for accidents with uninsured drivers.” Updated on 19/11/2008
