Sit like a man and avoid a whiplash claim
Recent research has highlighted that because of the seating position the majority of women adopt whilst driving the chances of them suffering from whiplash in a car accident is greatly increased. The study carried out by a University in Sweden showed that when compared, women were up to three times as likely to suffer from whiplash injuries from rear end shunting than their male counterparts.
The researchers at Umea University focused on whiplash injury as it was one of the most common injuries sustained following a car accident. As mentioned the main reason women are at an increased risk is due to the adjustments made to their seating column to accommodate the curvature in their spine.
Interestingly the crash dummies used were based on the details collated from numerous women from varying backgrounds, heights and statures and yet their posture details all led to the same outcome, increased neck injury.
For those that want to refrain from being included in a whiplash injury claim the advice is clear, sit like a man!
