Broken chair in public liability claim
A man from Darlington had recent success in his public liability compensation claim over a chair which collapsed, breaking into two and injuring him, when he tried to sit on it.
The accident took place in a local public house in Darlington, where the man was drinking and socialising with some friends. Without warning, the chair gave way beneath him as he tried to sit down. The chair was obviously unsafe, but the owners of the public house had made no attempt to provide proper warnings, or, better yet, remove the unsafe chair entirely.
The man, who was of pensioner age, sustained injuries to both his back and his knees, which required an extensive program of physiotherapy to treat. He was also required to undergo an operation to the knee; however, he has still been, as of yet, unable to make a full recovery. He is not able to walk or to get around as well as he used to, which was taken into account in settling the compensation money.
After a drawn-out trial, the compensation claim has finally been settled out of court. The man was said to be very happy with the compensation money.
