Bite attack woman to pay liability compensation

In a public liability claim a woman has been ordered to participate in unpaid work and pay a compensation claim, after biting a teacher on the hand during an argument.

The 46-year-old of Thomas Street West, Savile Park, Halifax, pleaded guilty to an assault on a PE teacher but claimed she did not cause all the injuries suffered by the victim, and that she was provoked.

The argument started when the accused went outside her house at 10:30pm on 11 September, to ask noisy customers from the Big Six pub, located on the same street, to be quiet.

The pair apparently got into an altercation during which the victim was pushed, fell and hit her head on the wall. The accused returned to her house, before once again going outside around 11.30pm and a second argument ensued. It was during this argument that the accused bit victim on her hand.

Kieron Green, acting on behalf of accused, said: “There was a push, she went back outside, and she went back and bit her. I would hope, having seen the report, and accepting the circumstances of this, she is a lady who was minding her own business, in her own house.”

The court was also told that earlier in the day the accused had attended her father-in-law’s funeral.

She was sentenced to pay £200 personal injury compensation to the victim, £145 in court costs, complete a 12-month supervision order and undertake 80 hours of unpaid work.
