Woman left infertile after cancer misdiagnosis
A woman who was left infertile following the misdiagnosis of smear tests, has won half a million pounds in a public liability payout.
The woman, aged 31, was tested for cervical cancer on two occasions in 2001, but was not diagnosed as having the disease for over two years.
She did manage to give birth in December 2003, despite a pregnancy full of complications. However, she was left infertile following the rigorous treatment she had to endure.
She also suffers with other further health problems including trouble with her hips, bowel and bladder.
Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust agreed a compensation claim payout for the medical negligence, and said that steps had been taken to improve their diagnosis system.
