Biker wins compensation after being hit by uninsured driver
In a public liability case, a biker who was knocked over by an uninsured motorist has won a multi-million pound compensation claim.
The 53-year-old victim suffered severe head and brain injuries, as well as a fractured spine, when he was knocked off his bike in Manchester city centre by an uninsured female driver.
The father of two had been driving to Withington Golf Club, where he worked as head green keeper, at 6.45am on an October morning in 2006.
The driver hit him with her car, causing him to be thrown from his motorbike, across the car bonnet, before landing head first into a bollard.
As a result, he has been left with slurred speech, balance and mobility problems and poor levels of concentration.
After a two-and-a-half year legal battle, he has been awarded £1.25million in accident claim compensation as a lump sum payment, along with expected annual payments of £57,500 to help pay for his future care.
The driver pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention, as well as driving without insurance. She was fined £200 and given 6 penalty points on her licence.
