Ex-soldier awarded public liability compensation over leg injuries

"Substantial damages" have been awarded to a 57-year-old former soldier following his public liability claim for accident injuries, sustained in an incident at a council recycling site.

The South Yorkshire man was rushed to Doncaster Royal Infirmary for treatment on a broken leg, after slipping on a ramp at the recycling dump while disposing of a cardboard box.

So severe were the man's injuries that doctor's initially told him he would need his leg amputating from above the right knee.

However, after seeking a second opinion at Northern General Hospital in Sheffield, he underwent treatment that has hopefully saved his leg.

Even now, nearly five years since the accident, the man still has difficulty walking, one of the most significant motives for his public liability claim.

Following resolution of the compensation claim, he commented, "This has been a nightmare. For the last four years my wife has had to help me wash, dress and use the bathroom, and I've been unable to work at all.”

He said that the public liability claim negotiated for him by his injury lawyer means that he and his family "can concentrate on moving on with our lives."
