Wrongly convicted man in line for million pound compensation claim
In a public liability claim, a man who was wrongly jailed for 27 years could be awarded over a million pounds after making a compensation claim for his ordeal.
The man who was convicted for the murder of a female in 1979, is pursuing compensation for damages from the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), Forensic Science Services and Hampshire Police.
His conviction was quashed in 2008 after new DNA evidence revealed that another man, who had admitted to the killing but later committed suicide, was in fact the woman’s killer. The claimant was released from prison in March last year.
His compensation claim is expected to see him get over £1million from the MoJ, whilst planned action against the Forensic Science Service and Hampshire Police could see a further £1million being awarded.
It’s believed that he has already been awarded £200,000 as an interim payment, but his access to this is limited for his own protection.
