Elderly Woman Plans Compensation Claim after Suffering Injuries at Racecourse

An elderly woman is planning a compensation bid after a poorly-secured barrier at Doncaster Racecourse fell and left her requiring surgery.

The 74-years-old suffered personal injuries to her face in the incident, which happened in October 2007.

The accident happened when a metal barrier broke loose from the wire that was holding it in place. It subsequently went through the windscreen of her car and swung directly into her face.

Her injuries included loss of sight in her right eye and shattered bones in her face. Her speech has also been affected. Furthermore; her pet dog, which was in the car at the time, was also injured and died only a couple of weeks later.

The racecourse, which recently underwent redevelopment at a cost of £34 million, was fined £25,000 plus costs at Doncaster Crown Court after owners admitted public liability and two breaches of the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Reports stated that the victim is planning a compensation claim against the company, with her son saying she had been “on a long hard road” since the accident.

She still has panic attacks over the incident he said but she has been able to resume driving and walks her new dog near the area.
