Shopper receives over £14,000 after fall

A shopper has received compensation after suffering multiple injuries as a result of falling in an indoor shopping mall.

The woman was walking along one of the levels of the shopping centre when she slipped on soapy water outside one of the shops and landed heavily onto the ground in an awkward position.

She suffered severe pain and discomfort in her back and shoulder and required the help of a passer by to help her get up.

The woman didn't go to hospital on the day of her fall but did later see her GP a few days later after experiencing further pain in her arm, back and torso.

She stated that she also found it difficult to lift heavy items and felt discomfort when using her arm.

She was then referred to a consultant who confirmed that she required surgery as she had suffered a tear in a tendon.

After filing a public liability claim, it was found that the store was liable for her injuries as although she had fallen inside a shopping mall which resided with the mall operators, the area where she slipped formed part of the entrance to the store.

Although there was a wet floor sign displayed in the shop, the store failed to display one in view of those outside where the slipping hazard was.

As a result, the woman received over £14,000 in compensation for her injuries.
