Farmer worried after cattle released onto roads

With many drivers and pedestrians filing personal injury claims after cattle have escaped from a field, it is hardly surprising that farmer Frank Cain, is worried about public injuries after people keep letting his cattle lose for fun.

Cain, of Camlork Farm at Mount Rule, is worried that a serious accident could happen after his cattle have twice been released from his fields onto neighbouring roads.

“A week last Monday (June 22) we had a call from the police at 5.30am saying our cattle were out at .It is a strange time for it to happen and I had fastened the gate myself so I knew it had been shut properly. It can't just swing open on its own because you have to lift it,” he said.

With the help of his wife, dog and neighbour, they managed to round the livestock up. However, just a week later and the same thing happened again.

“The problem is these jokers who are doing this do not have public liability insurance so they could be paying for the rest of their lives if someone were to sue them – it could be very serious if someone were passing on a motorbike for example.”

Mr Cain said neighbours had also been targeted in a similar area. “The danger of doing this sort of thing really needs to be highlighted,” he added.
