Holiday homeowners warned to get public liability insurance
Holiday homeowners could struggle for cash this summer if they fail to purchase public liability insurance.
Holiday homeowners are being advised to ensure they have public liability insurance to cover the costs of any compensation claims made by the holidaymaker in the case of an accident.
Insurance provider, Cornish Mutual has advised those renting out their properties in the south-west of England to ensure they are protected in the case of a holidaymaker filing a compensation claim during their stay this summer.
Chris Ridgers of Cornish Mutual, stated that the insurance will cover the homeowner during the risk of claim filed by a member of the public due to an accident that may have occurred in the property.
He also advised of the importance of employee liability for those who own a holiday property after figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that over a half of the major personal injuries in the region are of those who work in the service sector.
He said: “Your employees may be injured at work and they might try to claim compensation from you if they believe you are responsible.
It could be a cleaner who goes into the property on changeover day or a gardener you employ to maintain the property - anyone who's working under your guidance and using your tools and equipment."
