Pit bulls a liability
In a bid to tackle the risk that dangerous dogs pose to the public the mayor of Omaha, USA, has introduced new schemes. A plan to muzzle all pit bulls has been put in place and received backing from residents and council members. They also plan to force pit bull owners to purchase adequate liability insurance.
Although the incentives to eradicate vicious dog attacks and monitor owners was welcomed some did oppose the plans. This is not, however, all bad news. Some of those that opposed stated that they wish the rules to be applicable to all dog owners and not just solely for those with pit bull dogs.
The proposed plans come in the wake of some serious incidents in the city. In one case a toddler was attacked and suffered injuries to the head.
Dog attacks are now widely publicised as many cases of specific dog breeds attacking humans come to light. It is a hard situation to tackle and there appears to be no definite answer. Locals and council members are willing to make significant changes to hopefully bring about change.
