Hospital’s negligence in suspending a careless doctor led to the suffering of innocent patients.
In an astonishing incident which came to light in UK there were approximately 1000 patient who suffered because of incompetent surgical practices which took place in a leading hospital.
The leading doctor of the hospital who practiced during 1993 to 2008 had many serious concerns pertaining to his performance which included incorrect diagnosis and out of keeping procedures due to which many patients have suffered continuously. These incidents were reported to the General Medical Council and an investigation was launched.
The above development led to a law suit issued against the hospital which included the patients looked after by the uro-gynaecologist. The accused doctor who was a surgeon for treating women with incontinence was charged with giving the wrong surgery and also performing it below the accepted norms with no aftercare given to the women, leaving them in a deplorable condition.
The hospital authorities suspended the doctor in 2008 and he is till date banned from executing any kind of uro-gynaecological surgery.
The medical negligence lawyer looking after the case claimed that the list which consists of the total number of people who could sue the doctor had entries up to 1000 in number and starting from the year 1993. Out of the 1000 patients listed 350 have already come forward for the compensation.
In these kinds of circumstances there is usually a time period of three years during which any claim for medical negligence can be registered but since a prior agreement was agreed to, by the hospital authorities after the accused doctor’s suspension which stated that affected patients could come forward and make their claim till 3 September.
The hospital authorities confirmed that they have been contacted by 300 patients who were treated by the accused doctor.
The doctor was first accused of professional negligence in 2004 but he continued with his practice for the next 4 years before finally being suspended. In the month of April the hospital authorities contacted the patients who were treated during his tenure so that his work from 2001 could be reviewed.
The NHS trust was criticized by the report accredited by the hospital which analyzed the management and department of the doctor in question.
