£77,000 compensation for former plant operator
A former employee of a chemical giant has received more than £77,000 in personal injury compensation, after he developed a serious asbestos related lung condition.
The 62-year-old man was diagnosed with asbestos related pleural thickening in 2008.
His condition was due to the professional negligence of his former employers and has left him suffering from breathlessness.
This has eventually forced him to give up his job working in an airport car parking service.
His injury lawyers proved to the court that he was exposed to asbestos whilst working as a plant operator between 1979 and 1986.
His job involved removing asbestos insulation from pipe work during routine maintenance.
It was reported that his employers were found guilty of professional negligence because he was never warned of the dangers to his future health. They also failed to provide him with any protection.
His injury lawyers were successful in settling the claim out of court. The settlement allows him to apply for further compensation should his condition deteriorate.
The victim said: “My condition has become so bad I can no longer work and cannot do any of the DIY jobs I used to enjoy around the house. I’m well aware that I may get asbestos related cancer which is a real fear I have to live with every day."
