Family compensated after daughter's injury
A young girl has received a sum of compensation after she sustained a personal injury when she was two-years-old.
The woman was playing in a playgroup with her childminder, when the accident happened. She opened a swing door to enter the building where the playgroup took place, but as she did so her thumb was trapped in the door hinge.
She was rushed to hospital where she had to undergo emergency surgery and was forced to have the tip of her thumb removed.
The young girl’s family decided to seek compensation for the personal injuries that the girl sustained as a result of the hinge door, which was found to not comply with health and safety regulations. In addition, the hinge should have been fitted with a cover as it was at the entrance of the children’s playgroup.
The family were awarded with a compensation sum of £52,000. They said that the money would go towards paying for a prosthetic thumb, which would benefit the young girl cosmetically, but also allow her to make better use of her thumb.
