Supermarket worker wins personal injury compensation
Rhyl County Court has upheld the ruling against a disabled woman from Wales which ordered her to pay a personal injury award to a supermarket worker.
Injury lawyers for the worker told the court that the 61-year-old woman was responsible for injuring the supermarket worker's knee in a scooter accident.
The accident happened in 2005, when the disabled woman was using her mobility scooter at her local supermarket, when was involved in a collision with a staff member's trolley. The resulting impact caused a knee injury to the worker.
After the employee was treated for the personal injury, the worker decided to pursue a no win no fee claim.
The court then ordered the disabled woman to pay him a total of £13,100 in scooter accident compensation.
However, the latest ruling means that the woman can pay the settlement in installments of £100 a month. She commented, "I will pay the money though I have misgivings."
The judge also agreed to secure the accident debt against the defendant's home, an £80,000 property in Rhyl.
