Shop worker compensated for personal injury
A shop worker who suffered a serious personal injury to her back after a fall, has received £5,000 in a compensation claim.
The 55 year old woman from Hereford, said her employers ignored complaints about the dangerous staircase which she fell down.
As a result of her injuries she was forced to take two months off work.
Her personal injury lawyers said that she fell down a spiral staircase while working for a popular shop in the town. She was coming down the stairs after going to a storage room when she slipped. She needed physiotherapy after her back and hip were damaged in the fall.
A later inspection by an environmental trading standards officer showed that the treads on the staircase were inadequate.
The officer also said that despite complaints to the employers by the injured woman and her colleagues, nothing had been done.
She contacted her lawyers to launch a compensation claim, who were able to secure an out-of-court settlement after the franchise admitted liability.
As a result of the woman's case, the shop has now put rubber edging on the stairs to prevent a similar accident from happening.
