£4000 compensation for personal injuries
Edinburgh Sheriff Court has ordered two men to pay £2000 each in compensation, for attacking an off-duty police officer.
It was reported that when the policeman challenged a youth who had kicked the car he was driving in, he was waylaid by a gang of other young men and repeatedly assaulted.
He suffered serious personal injury as he was left bleeding on the ground and later had to undergo surgery to his cheek and nose. As a result, he had to take time off work for two and a half months.
Along with the £2000 in the compensation claim, the two young men were also told they must undertake 250 hours of community service.
The court also stated clearly that the boys had to pay the £2000 compensation from their own pockets. He also asked their injury lawyers to make this clear to both their parents.
He said: "It is a disgraceful, outrageous, that a member of the public, minding his own business, should be subject to hooliganism and then attacked.
"He off work for two and a half months and was a man who served the community as a police officer, he stated.
