Fake injury claims mounting
A growing number of people in the UK are faking personal injuries so as to make compensation claims, a survey has found.
The survey of GPs by an insurance provider revealed that the commonest way to make a claim is on a whiplash injury from a purported car accident.
It was further found that nearly 98 per cent of GPs said they had seen a patient they thought was exaggerating an injury to claim compensation.
In the same vein 65 per cent said they had seen a rise in fake claimants over the past 10 years.
Last year, no fewer than 1,200 whiplash claims per day were seen by insurers.
Meanwhile, figures from the Department of Transport have suggested that there is an overall drop in the number of casualties in the country.
The statistics show an eight per cent drop compared to the previous year.
Personal injury claims, especially whiplash, are quite expensive and are of serious concern to insurers, with costs often passed on to customers in rising premiums.
