Police crackdown on illegal drivers
Police have carried out a record confiscation of cars in London in the latest offensive on illegal motoring, reports have claimed.
The crackdown, according to figures, resulted in the seizure of nearly 40,000 cars in the city.
Drivers of the impounded cars include those without car insurance or valid license.
The statistics show the cars were seized in the 12 months to April, 2009.
The action follows increasing crimes using vehicles like the crash-for-cash scam in which fraudsters get motorists to hit them from behind so they can fabricate personal injury and whiplash claims.
In another development motorists in London have been categorized into five groups based on their parking habits.
At the top are the sharks who pursue a parking space, even using abuse to secure it.
They are followed by the scorpions, those racing to find a suitable spot and sit in wait.
Others are panthers, those following shoppers to their car; mice, drivers that wouldn’t mind giving up a spot; and chimpanzees, who cleverly and persuasively get their way.
