Facing a personal injury claim
A 42 year old woman from Wales has filed a personal injury case after she claims a face-lift in Belgium has ruined her life and stated that she was not warned over the hazards of nerve damage.
In 2005, the woman had upper and lower eye surgery and a face lift by cosmetic surgery company Elyzea, but instead of transforming her life, it has become a face-ache and she is now embarrassed to be seen in public, due to the disastrous effects.
The case is significant, because it could help pave the way for other patients who may have been a victim to dodgy healthcare abroad, but desire to sue in the UK, because of higher compensation payout amounts.
The victim said that she suffers from numbness of the face and a “lack of symmetry” on the left side of her face. She has also been forced to grow her hair longer, to hide the scarring.
It is thought that the Italian surgeon who carried out the four-hour long operation has 24 separate complaints against him.
Antonia Whally, assistant to the clinic’s director said: “Under Belgium jurisdiction, the surgeon is responsible for all his medical practice, not the clinic. That's everything from start to finish [...] The surgeon himself is accountable. We've tried to get into contact with him but he is behaving like an ostrich – which is not acceptable.”
The case is pending.
