Boy wins personal injury compensation
A nine year old boy has received compensation worth £8.1 million due to serious personal injuries after his dad accidently ran him over and left the boy with spinal injuries.
Callum Cross, suffered from brain and spinal injuries when he was two-and-a-half years old in March 2002. Due to the personal injury, Callum will need lifelong care.
Patrick, the boy’s father failed to see him while reversing in a car park at Mead Open Farm, Bedfordshire and drove over him.
The High Court heard how Mr Cross’s insurers, who admitted liability at an early stage, had made an interim payment of £1.7 million to enable the family to purchase a home which met Callum’s needs.
Callum’s compensation of over £8 million is thought to be the highest payment ever for spinal injury. Warren Collins, solicitor and national co-ordinator of the spinal cord injuries group for the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers, said: “This is a substantial award, but it is not a lottery win.”
