Decline in personal injury claims

For a second year in a row, the number of personal injuries and road accidents in Tullahoma has decreased, according to the local Police Chief. The reason for the decline Blackwell said was due to “public awareness and ongoing effort to educate the public.”
According to police data, in 2008 traffic accidents with personal injuries totalled 135 compared to 169 in 2007. Accidents without injuries in 2008 totalled 669 as compared to 715 in 2007.
Blackwell commented: “We plan to utilize technology to detect, deter and prosecute traffic violations, plus we are working with state and local agencies to reduce alcohol and drug- related traffic incidents, such as using programs to eliminate under-age drinking and the enforcement of beer and alcohol laws.”
The chief noted that the key element to success is educating the public. “We plan to implement safety programs, selective enforcement and safety programs and public awareness to continue the trend in motor vehicle collision reduction.”
The Mayor expressed his delight with the accident decrease, especially the reduction in personal injury claims: “I am very pleased with the results, especially the substantial decline in personal injury accidents over the past two years. I am impressed that Chief Blackwell has achieved this while reducing the number of traffic citations.”
