Personal injury awarded compensation after accident
Two American men have been awarded
personal injury compensation after being injured in a road accident two years ago.
Ronny Martinez, 37 and 50 year-old Kenneth O'Neal, both from Austin in Texas, were travelling along an Interstate in July 2006 when the accident occurred. An HGV struck their car after it driving into their lane, causing their vehicle to roll several times. Both men were injured, with Mr O'Neal having to undergo reconstructive surgery on his right knee and suffering mild brain damage.
Their attorney, James Craig Orr Jr. remarked:"These two men were driving down the road, minding their own business, when the Celadon driver changed their lives forever. The jury did the right thing here. This decision will help them put their lives back together, and we hope it serves as an important warning to other trucking companies to hire only qualified drivers and follow the rules of the road."
They were awarded $1.5 million in total, with $750,000 of that amount designated for medical bills.
