Post Traumatic Stress leads to personal injury claim
A woman has won a personal injury claim after suffering Post Traumatic Stress as the result of a car accident.
The woman was involved in a car accident after a lorry failed to stop at a motorway slip road exit and collided with the vehicle she was driving. After the accident, she was unable to get out of her car as the door had jammed and suffered a great amount of trauma while she remained trapped inside her vehicle.
After the incident, she was left unable to drive long distances and felt uncomfortable being away from home for long periods at a time due to the stress she felt. Due to the psychological distress she suffered she could not travel to work and was forced to take early retirement.
As well as suffering from Post Traumatic Stress disorder, the woman suffered soft tissue damage to her legs in the collision. The lorry driver's insurer initially refused to negotiate a settlement but eventually settled out of court, awarding damages of £20,000.
