Personal injury lawyers win more money for men

An article published today by the Irish Independent, it was revealed that men receive larger pay-outs than women when they make
claims through the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB) even though women make more claims. According to Patricia Byron, the chief executive of PIAB this is due to men more often owning cars and being higher earners.
The figures were released ahead of a Supreme Court hearing which will take place next month and address PIAB’s existing policies. Women accounted for 53% of all motor claims, which is more than half of those sought through the Personal Injuries Assessment Board, but their average pay-outs were €847 less than those won by men. The average claim awarded to women was €21,313 and the average for men was €22,140.
The biggest awards which were won by
personal injury lawyers went to people who had suffered pelvis, leg and foot injuries. These pay-outs were over €5,000 more than people received for multiple injuries and a shocking €10,900 more than the average pay-out received by those who suffered neck and back injuries.
