High no win no fee cost amount for Bexley
It has been revealed via a Freedom of Information request, that council bosses in Bexley have had to fork out over £45,000 in no win no fee cases.
The compensation claims range from a fall in a car park to a fall in a road.
Lawsuits filed against the local council reached 140 during 2009-2010, meaning that £1,150 in personal injury costs were coughed up.
However, the latest figures actually show a drop in claims because during 2008 cases reached 227 and in 2007 they rocketed to 246.
According to the information request, the largest sum paid to a claimant in 2008 was £9,055 after they fell in Bexleyheath car park.
The biggest settlement for 2008-2009 reached £1,294 for damage to a garden wall by a street tree. A similar case then followed when yet more damage was done to a separate front wall by another tree.
No claims have yet been settled for 2009-2010 – the last insurance year.
