No win, no fee compensation claim for signpainter

A man, 32, of Wolverhampton, who had been employed repainting signs, was recently successful in his no win, no fee compensation claim after a sign collapsed on him, causing him severe injury.

He had been hired by a local business, which had just moved into new premises, and therefore needed their sign repainted. However, it seems that they had not made any safety precautions regarding the sign before hiring the man. As it turned out, the sign, which was very old, had become dangerously unstable, and was in no fit state to be repainted.

The sign collapsed onto the man, knocking him from his ladder. The man suffered a broken arm as well as serious injury to his head. He required several weeks of recovery, during which time he had to be cared for by family members. He has been unable to continue his previous work due to permanent damage to his arm, which was taken into consideration in calculating his compensation claim.

Getting into contact with his union, he realised that he was entitled to make a claim for compensation against the negligent local business who had not taken proper measures to ensure his safety. He got into contact with a no win, no fee firm of solicitors, who agreed to represent him in his case. The judge ruled in his favour; the amount of compensation, however, remains undisclosed.
