HGV driver compensated because of RSI problems

A HGV driver has been given £13,500 in a compensation claim after developing repetitive strain injury (RSI) in her job for a blue chip company, it has been revealed.

The GMB member from Leicestershire now finds it painful to lift objects, stretch and carry things because she suffers from the condition.

The RSI work accident claim worker commented: "My elbow still causes me pain every day and it makes it difficult to lift and carry. I try hard just to put up with it.

"I decided to claim compensation as my employers just wouldn't listen to my concerns. I'm surprised and delighted by how much compensation [my personal injury lawyers] have been able to secure."

Initially, the claimant tried to tell her managers about her personal injury; however, after these complaints fell on deaf ears, she contacted her trade union who advised her about the possibility of making a no win no fee claim.

The firm, which handled the woman's case, settled for a five-figure sum and stated: "Where staff undertake repetitive tasks employers should be anticipating possible problems with RSI.

"More than one in 50 people in the UK suffer from an RSI and more often than not these have both been caused by work and could have been prevented," she added.
