Woman receives £9000 for injury caused by carer

An elderly lady has received more than £9,000 in compensation after she was injured by a member of staff in a care home.

The 92 year old woman was found with a broken femur in May 2008.

She was discovered injured by another carer and was rushed to hospital, where she had to undergo surgery to put a steel rod in her leg.

She was later moved to a nursing home as her condition worsened; her family say she is now recovering well. Following an investigation a carer was sacked.

Her 63 year old son said he decided to pursue compensation after he was advised by the local authority.

He contacted no win nofee lawyers who were successful in getting the care owner homers to admit liability and settled the claim out of court.

He said: “It is difficult to imagine that my mother was injured by the very person who was hired to help look after her. My mother was in agony but was left by that carer to suffer alone."

The no win no fee lawyer commented: “It is only correct that this family gets justice and that this carer was sacked from her position working with vulnerable people.”Updated on 12/01/2010
