Compensation awarded after chemical exposure

A printer who suffered serious damage to his kidneys after many years working with toxic chemicals has won compensation from his employer.

The man was diagnosed with kidney disease after working with a printing chemical called toluene. The printer had previously visited a GP who said it would be fine to continue working near the substance but after seeking a second opinion from a specialist it was found that he had developed the disease.

After becoming too ill to continue to work, the man took early retirement in 2001 and then began his search for compensation from the company.
